ReLDI Centre is hosting the third edition of the CLASSLA-Express workshop, taking place on 25 October in Belgrade, ahead of JuDig 2026.
This year’s workshop focuses on spoken and web corpora and their use in the analysis of language variation. Through hands-on work, participants will explore the ParlaSpeech and CLASSLA-web corpora using NoSketchEngine and Praat.
Hands-on work with corpora
The first part of the workshop will focus on the ParlaSpeech corpus, which contains spoken material from parliamentary debates. Using NoSketchEngine, participants will explore concordances and linguistic patterns, while Praat will be used to analyse different variables and characteristics of speech.
The second part will focus on the CLASSLA-web corpora. Participants will learn how to create subcorpora and compare lexical patterns across different genres and domains.
During the workshop, participants will learn how to:
- formulate queries for corpus research;
- analyse concordances and metadata;
- identify and interpret linguistic variables;
- create subcorpora according to different criteria;
- compare lexical patterns across different domains;
- explore characteristics of spoken language.
The workshop brings together students, linguists, phoneticians, lexicographers, language teachers, digital humanities researchers and anyone working with or interested in language data and corpus-based research.
